| A Memory of Todd...
One of the memories of Todd that have been floating around in my head is of us playing basketball in the back of the house many years ago. He was a lot better than me then: while I had more hustle, he could actually shoot the ball.
Growing up, we all used to play for hours. 2v2, 3v3, HORSE.
He had one particularly annoying/effective shot whereby he would get a rebound and would start dribbling away from the rim as if he was clearing the ball back out. The next thing you knew, he had shot the ball backwards and earned himself an easy-2. Totally undefendable; totally annoying. ;)
One thing that's been weighing on my mind is that I haven't really spent that much time with Todd over the past 8 or so years. Part of me knows that that was purely circumstantial in that we just never ended up doing the same activities: whereas I was always off playing volleyball, basketball, hiking, climbing, and/or paintballing...he was one to play boardgames, play poker, watch sports-games on TV, watch sports-games live -- things I never really cared much to do and, as such, never really did them.
In retrospect, it's humbling to think that Todd did actually LOVE sports and REALLY wanted to participate in them. But, given the physical limitations of his heart, it wasn't necessarily safe or wise for him to do so beyond cheering from the stands. I had never thought about that before this moment...and it weighs on me to think that that is why I didn't do much with Todd these past years: because I was off doing things that he loved...but couldn't participate in.
Hopefully I will be more perceptive in the future...

| First of the Month...A Few Hours late...
The Man He Killed "Had he and I but met By some old ancient inn, We should have sat us down to wet Right many a nipperkin! "But ranged as infantry, And staring face to face, I shot at him as he at me, And killed him in his place. "I shot him dead because-- Because he was my foe, Just so: my foe of course he was; That's clear enough; although "He thought he'd 'list, perhaps, Off-hand like--just as I-- Was out of work--had sold his traps-- No other reason why. "Yes; quaint and curious war is! You shoot a fellow down You'd treat if met where any bar is, Or help to half-a-crown." -- Thomas Hardy. [I'm still thinking about joining up]

| (odd) simple pleasures... Sheauen sent me this link today: http://foodnetworkhumor.com/2009/06/young-bobby-flay/
The link discusses Bobby Flay...and how he's a douche.
I...fully agree.
=)
I can honestly say that few things in life give me more consistent pleasure than watching him FAIL in his "throw-downs" (where he challenges someone who makes something really great [say, awesome chili] to a cook-off).
and actually...i'm guessing that THAT is the actual appeal of the show. Food Network probably realizes that Bobby Flay is a douche and that people enjoy watching him FAIL.
[nice to know I'm not alone in this disdain. I guess few people like a bully...though...I guess a large viewer segment enjoys watching a bully fail]
